Wilbur E. King, 85, of Manlius died at 1:48 a.m. Saturday, April 11, on his farm rural Manlius. Born June 12, 1929, in Manlius to Donald and Clara (Heurlin) King, he married Donna Lee Jacobson May 22, 1949, in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manlius. She died March 26, 1991. He was a 1947 graduate of Manlius High School. He was a lifetime farmer. He was a member of Walnut American Legion Post 179, the Manlius Sportsman Club, Manlius Cemetery Board and Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manlius. He served in the U.S. Army as a corporal during the Korean Conflict, serving in Germany. Surviving are one son, Don (Val) King of Manlius; one daughter, Dee (Harry) McCune of Manlius; four grandchildren, Jacob (Kristen) King of Manlius, Donna Lee (Cameron Klostermann) McCune of Uniontown, Ky., John (Bri Mackey) King of Ankeny, Iowa, and Brittany McCune of Normal; his sweetheart, Sandy Boender of Manlius; and a sister, Donna (Robert) Doty of Manlius. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 15, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manlius, with the Rev. Gene Vincent, pastor of the First Lutheran Church in Ohio, officiating. Burial will be in the Manlius Cemetery, Manlius, with military rites conducted by Walnut American Legion Post 179. There will be no visitation. Pallbearers will be Bruce Jacobson, Jerry Jacobson, Chris Jacobson, Mike Jacobson, Todd Ratliff, Jacob King and John King. Memorials may be directed to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manlius, the Manlius Cemetery Association and the Bureau Valley Sports Boosters Club.

  1. Don & Val Sorry to hear this news. Wilber will be missed by a lot of peole. I used to see him over here in Princeton at the grocery store every once in a while.

    Sorry to hear of Wilbur’s passing. I understand the funeral was standing room only. I guess that says everything you need to know about Wilbur and his legacy. May the days to come bring some peace as you reflect on a life well-lived.

I know I can’t erase your pain, but I want you to know that God Almighty, whose name is Jehovah (Psalms 83:18) has promised that soon you can see Wilbur again, right here on earth!
