Walter N. Burgess, 82, of Franklin Grove, formerly of Buda, died at 3:09 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 25, 2011, at the Franklin Grove Nursing Home in Frankilin Grove. Born Dec. 9, 1929, in Buda to George and Beatrice (Wilson) Burgess, he married Rosemary Ried in 1955 in Sheffield. She died Jan. 1, 1997. He was a graduate of Buda High School. She worked at Kraft Foods in Manlius and Allentown, Pa., for 30 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict, 1948 to 1952. Surviving is one sister-in-law, Betty (Jerry) Horton of Ashton. He was also preceded in death by his parents and one brother, George Burgess. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Sheffield Cemetery, Sheffield, with the Rev. Jack Briggs officiating. Burial will be in the Sheffield Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to the Franklin Grove Rescue Squad.
