Walter Eugene Bauer, 82, of Bradford, IL passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Peoria.

Walt was born on December 13, 1941, in Peoria, the son of Marion Elmer and Lieu “Alma” (Elmore) Bauer. He was a graduate of Bradford High School. Walt served in the United States Army from 1961-1964. He retired from Chillicothe Metal Co., where he worked for over 30 years. He was married to Marion Gertrude Schmidt on August 12, 1989, at Francis Park in Kewanee. She preceded him in death on December 22, 2010. Walt was an avid bowler, enjoyed camping and was a member of the Kentucky Colonels. He also loved driving across the US.

Survivors include his two daughters, Jana and Shawna Bauer of Tucson, AZ; two grandchildren, Jonathan Horne and Tiffany Bauer; seven siblings, Ella “Eileen” (Jon) Norin of Bloomington, John Bauer of Tiskilwa, Richard Bauer of Bradford, Jack Bauer of Buda, Barbara (Ray) Carlson of Mountain Home, AR, Edward (Sharon) Bauer of Bradford and Mary Jason of Wyoming, IL; as well as 22 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

A private graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at Bradford Village Cemetery. A Celebration of Life with a potluck dinner for family and friends will be held at Bradford Baptist Church on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, starting at 2:00pm. Cremation Rites have been accorded.

Memorial donations may be directed to the Bradford Senior Center, where Walt enjoyed many a game of bingo and dominoes.
