Virginia Mae Puyear

Virginia Mae (Wyatt) Puyear, 97, of Wyanet passed away on December 14, 2022 in Princeton. Mrs. Virginia Puyear was born on July 22, 1925 in Wyanet to Floyd and Rose Mae (Richmond) Wyatt. She attended Pleasant Valley School until she graduated in 1938. She went on to Wyanet High School from 1939 - 1943. While in high school, she was active in school plays, music, and a member of chorus, pom poms, golf, F.H.A. camp delegate in 1942 and honor roll student. The former Virginia Mae Wyatt married Harry B. Puyear on June 10, 1945.
After high school, she applied to and was accepted into the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps in 1943. She attended training in 1943 to 1945 and then was gone from training for one year due to illness and returned back to training in 1947. She graduated in 1948 as an R.N. While working at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton, Illinois, she suffered a cardiac arrest in 1968 and could not work anymore. She was active in the community and attended Wyanet Wesleyan Church for many years. She loved to travel and went on numerous cruises and to Europe for 6 weeks with her sister Sarah.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, husband Harry, son Clark Puyear, and two brothers Wendell and John Wyatt.
She is survived by her sons Charles Puyear of Iowa and Randall (Patty) Puyear of Iowa; brothers Dean (Lorna) Wyatt of Oklahoma, Thomas (Ruth) Wyatt of Arkansas, and sister Sarah Cox of Florida.
Also surviving are 4 grandsons, 1 granddaughter, 7 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Services for Virginia will be on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 11:00 at Grant-Johnson Funeral Home in Princeton, Illinois. Visitation will be an hour prior to services. Pastor Doug Kirkpatrick will be officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Wyanet, Illinois. Memorials may be directed to the Bureau County Senior Center in Princeton.
