Verda L. Whipple, 87, of Buda died at 2:30 a.m. Thursday, May 27, 2010, at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton. Born June 23, 1922, in rural New Bedford to Harwood "Hick" and Alfreda (Lang) Littlefield, she married Merle E. Whipple Nov. 22, 1946, in New Bedford. He died Oct. 14, 1990. She was a homemaker and bookkeeper for her husband''s business. She also worked a few years for Morris Foundry in Buda. Surviving are one son, Merle E. (Lorri) Whipple of Aurora, Colo.; two daughters, Gayle L. Whipple of Sheffield and Dorle Williams of Buda; one brother, George Littlefield of Redmond, Calif.; two sisters, Ruby Gerbetz of Princeton and Irene Pence of South Elgin; one sister-in-law, Marilyn Littlefield of Princeton; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Virgil Littlefield; one son, Dale Whipple; and one granddaughter, Kelly Whipple. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Princeton, with the Rev. Marvin Claassen officiating. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Memorial Park, Princeton. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Buda Rescue Unit.
Dorle, I hope you remember me. We went to grade school together and I happened upon your mom’s obituary. Sorry to hear of your loss. As a young child, I remember her as a funny person. You inherited that gift as that is how I remember you, too. Peace to you and your family.
