Tom Nelson, 64, of Princeton passed away at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at his home. He was born March 27, 1949, in Kewanee to Kenneth and Betty Jean (Genster) Nelson. He married Wanda Larsen May 31, 1980, in Manlius. She survives. He was a graduate of Western High School in Buda and attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. He retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation, Princeton, in 2004. He was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Princeton and the Princeton Game and Fish Club. He was a lifetime member of the Princeton Elks Lodge. He was involved in Way of Christ and was an avid golfer and hunter. Also surviving are one son, Danny (Rachel) Nelson of Wyanet; one daughter, Laura Nelson of Princeton; one brother, James L. Nelson of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Susan Nelson. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Princeton, with the Rev. Scott Schmidt officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded after the services and burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Princeton. Memorials may be directed to St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Princeton.

  11. We are very saddened to hear Tom has passed away. I always enjoyed talking to Tom at my work because he always asked how my family was and would visit for awhile before getting to his business.
