Shirley Elaine Velker, 82, of Princeton died at 10:13 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011, at Liberty Village of Princeton. Born April 27, 1929, in Princeton to Henry David and Mabel Florence (Glesenhagen) Whited, she married Donald William Velker March 12, 1955, in Providence, Ill. He survives. She graduated from Tiskilwa High School in 1947 and also graduated from cosmetology school in Freeport. She was a homemaker and the owner and operator of Clip & Curl Beauty Shop in Princeton. She was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Princeton. Also surviving are three daughters, Karen (James) Miller Jr. of Princeton, Cindy (Allen) Marshall of Granville and Dawn (David) Buhlig of Meredosia, Ill.; one brother, David (Marie) Whited of Princeton; two sisters Eleanor Kidd of Kewanee and Sandra Doan of Princeton; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Greg Velker; one daughter, Laura Velker; and two grandsons, Shawn Skaggs and Kyle Bowman. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Princeton, with the Rev. Jeff Schlesinger officiating. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Memorial Park, Princeton. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Princeton. Memorials may be directed to St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Princeton, the American Diabetes Foundation or the American Heart Association.
