Shawn Joseph Hall

August 30, 1959 ~ December 19, 2015
Shawn Joseph Hall, 56, of Princeton passed away Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015. He was born Aug. 30, 1959, in Savanna, Ill., the son of Lowell and Mary (Halfman) Hall. Shawn is survived by his two daughters, Lindsay (Ken) Davis of Princeton and Allison (Tony Philpott) Hall of Bloomington; and his grandchildren, Jaxon Joseph and Cecelia Mashel Davis. He also leaves two brothers, Tom (Becky) Hall and Mike Hall, both of Princeton; three sisters, Sue (Richard) Dikeman of Clinton, Iowa, Linda (Dale) Heinkel of Freeport and Donna Burgh of Ottawa; and many nieces and nephews. One uncle and two aunts also survive, Gene Halfman of Argo Fay, Frances Burkholder of Freeport and Alice Halfman of Thompson. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and younger brother, Brian Hall. Shawn spent his young childhood in Mt. Carroll and moved to Princeton with his family. He then graduated from Princeton High School in 1977 which he came out of with many great memories and the best of friends. He was a hardworking man. Shawn poured concrete for his father at Quality Concrete which he later bought and renamed Hall Bros. Concrete. He married and had two daughters, who he raised and loved with his whole being. Shawn was an avid sports fan. The Green Bay Packers were his favorite team, along with St. Louis Cardinals. He was an outstanding golfer in his younger days and played as often as he could across many states. He loved to joke and laugh with everyone and was very outgoing. The telephone became his lifeline to family and friends who he talked to everyday. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, 30 W. Mechanic St., Princeton, with Father Jeffrey Stirniman officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Princeton. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Vitas Hospice, 105 Marquette, Suite A, LaSalle, IL 61301; or National Institute on Alcohol Abuse & Alcoholism.

I don’t have many childhood memories that don’t have Shawn or one of the other Hall’s in them. Loved growing up with them. I am sure that Mary, Lowell and Brian are giving Shawn a great welcome home. And Urban and Marion (Boesch) are probably in on it too. My love to your family as you move through this and every day. Know that there are so many of us who hold memories that make us grin ear to ear for having known him somewhere along his life’s journey.

To Lindsay, Allison, Sue, and the entire Hall family: I am very sorry to receive this news, and sad that I never got to meet Shawn. But I’m confident I’ll meet him in the next life, and that he and I are going to be pretty good buddies. We’re sad for ourselves. But there’s a big grin on Mary Ellen’s and Lowell’s faces and Brian’s slapping his brother a long-overdue five. Blessings to all of you – and be sure to have the best of Christmases in the warmth of these memories.
My thoughts and prayers are with your family.
