Tommy, as he was known to his family and friends, was born February 13, 1959 in Kewanee, Illinois, the son of Sebert R. and Verda (Grimes) Larson. He was raised by Harold and Eunice (Larson) Belkholm, his aunt and uncle.

He is survived by his cousins, who thought of him as a brother: Dianne Van Drew of Princeton, and Joanne (Greg Jensen) Sheldon of Princeton, one sister, Babette (Colin) Willmott of Buffalo Grove, IL; one niece and one nephew; other cousins and their families; his house mates: Shannon, Brandon, Andrew, Tim, and Zeke and great friends at Gateway.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sebert R. and Verda; Harold and Eunice Belkholm; and other aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Tommy attended Dixon State School, Abilities Plus in Kewanee and MLAs at Gateway Services.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Princeton, People First, and he bowled in the Special Olympics. Tommy loved ice cream, chocolate pudding, Pepsi, the Cubs, the Bears, and his church family. His early years were spent at his aunt and uncle's home. Later he lived at Little Angels in Elgin, then Dixon State School, then Oak Crest in Kewanee, and then a CILA home at Gateway Services in Princeton. He met every challenge in his life with the biggest smile. He was an inspiration to all on how to live life with joy in your heart and love for everyone. We grieve his loss but he is home at last dancing with the angels. Forever smiling, forever a Cubs fan.

We want to thank his Gateway Family for all the love and care these past 26 years.

Heaven's Very Special Child

A meeting was held quite far from earth

"It's time again for another birth."

Said the angels to the Lord above,

This special child will need much love

His progress may be slow

Accomplishments he may not show

And he'll require extra care

From the folks he meets down there

So let's be careful where he's sent

We want his life to be content

Please, Lord, find a FAMILY who

will do a special job for you

They will not realize right away

The leading role they're asked to play

But with this child sent from above

Comes stronger faith and richer love

And soon they'll know the privilege given

In caring for this gift from heaven

Their precious charge so meek and mild

Is Heaven's Very Special Child.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Knowing Tommy was a pleasure and a privilege. I know he is one of God’s special angels. My condolences to his wonderful family, who always had his best interests at heart.

  2. What a sweet soul! We will miss his smile and his laughter. He always “got” Pastor’s jokes and let us know. He will be missed here as he dances with the angels.

  3. Tommy was such a wonderful man. I’ll always remember him in the sound of his laugh. He was so quiet but when he thought something was funny, boy you sure knew it! Rest easy, Sebert.

  4. Diane and Joanne,
So sorry to hear of Seibert’s passing. I have so many memories in my years of knowing him. His smile communicated so much. His joy for life, his faith and his persistence taught me so much. My life was better in knowing him.

  5. Sebert was always a joy when I worked for Gateway several years ago with his huge smile. Now he is smiling with the angels! We sympathize with you.
