Ruth E. Wood, 83, of Wyanet, Illinois passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at Liberty Village, Princeton, Illinois.

She was born September 12, 1938 in Tiskilwa, Illinois the daughter of Lisle and Eva (McLane) Vaughn.

Ruth married Elmer H. Wood February 28, 1960 in Tiskilwa, Illinois at the Tiskilwa Baptist Church. He preceded her in death March 17, 2001.

She is survived by one son: Patrick (Laurie) Wood of Princeton; one daughter-in law, Deb Wood of Princeton; three granddaughters: Katherine (Tyler) Perry of Springfield, Illinois and Kelsey (Matt) Eklin of Oak Lawn, Illinois and Janelle (Mike) Smith of Sheffield; two great-grandsons: Theo Perry and Mijael Smith; two siblings: Lisle "Butch" S. (Sharon) Vaughn, Jr. of Dallas, Texas and Marilyn Jean Barker of Danville, Illinois; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Jeff Wood, two sisters: Verna Skow and Virginia Richards and 5 brothers: Clifford, Robert, Willis, Lee Howard, and James Vaughn.

Ruth graduated from Tiskilwa High School with the Class of 1956.

She worked at the Wyanet Bank for over 40 years.

Ruth enjoyed gardening and feeding and watching birds and wildlife. She liked shopping and seasonal decorating. She intently watched college football. Ruth was a lifelong learner and was a voracious reader. In her younger days she was a golfer and bowler. Most of all, she loved her granddaughters and was interested in anything they were doing.

A visitation will be held 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 24, 2021 at Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Princeton. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Princeton with Pastor Eldon Cook officiating. Burial will take place in Mt. Bloom Cemetery, Tiskilwa. Memorials may be directed to the Wyanet Rescue Unit or the Raymond A. Sapp Memorial Library, Wyanet, Illinois. Online condolences may be sent to www.grant-johnsonfh.com.

  1. My thoughts and prayers are with Pat and his family. Your mom, was such a great lady. She would always talk with my mom and myself whenever we walked into the bank. I had the utmost respect for her. She will be missed.
