Russell “Buzz” Jones, 95, of Princeton passed away at 10:07 a.m. Thursday, July 10, 2014, at Toulon Health Care in Toulon. Born Aug. 24, 1918, in Wyanet to Harry and Ethel (Bowen) Jones, he married Melva J. McCalmont Oct. 18, 1947, in Wyanet. Surviving are two daughters, Dee Dee Sapp of Malden and Kellye (Richard) Nading of Marion, Ill.; and three grandsons, Corey (Erin) Sapp of Cherry, Eric W. (Julie) Sapp of Jefferson, Wis., and Drew Nading of Indianapolis, Ind. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, H. LaVern Jones. He attended Bradley Polytechnic in Peoria, studying Horologist. He worked as a watchmaker and jeweler in Princeton for Pamps Jewelry and Pihl''s Jewelry for 40 years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in Service CO, 136th Infantry of the 33rd Division of the U.S. Army. He served in the South Pacific, Hawaii Islands, New Guinea, East Indies and Luzon in the Philippines. He was in the service for four years being discharged October of 1945. He was a member of Wyaton Hills Golf Club, Indian Hills Golf Club of Tiskilwa and the First United Methodist Church in Princeton. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 12, at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Princeton, with the Rev. Matt Darnell officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Wyanet, with military rites conducted by Wyanet VFW Post 6634. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 12, in the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Toulon Health Care in Toulon.
