Ronald W. Smith, 76, of Princeton passed away at 7:20 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014, at OSF Richard L. Owen Hospice in Peoria. Born Dec. 14, 1937, in Bureau County to Floyd and Dorothy (Poff) Smith, he married Helen Fay Young March 12, 1966, in the First Baptist Church in Chicago Heights. She survives. He received a master''s degree in business and a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing. He was employed by Motorola for 37 years, retiring at age 62 as vice president sales and marketing. He was president of Motorola Microwaves. He was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Princeton, was secretary, treasurer and on the Board of Directors for Indian Hills Golf Course in Tiskilwa, treasurer for Princeton Youth Soccer League, a Youth Leader for over 50 years, and a Confirmation Leader. He played fast pitch softball until he was 56 years old. He loved golfing. Also surviving are two daughters, Debbie Smith of Lidenhurst and Kristin (Robbie Bahr) Smith of Clinton, Iowa; two sons, Daniel Smith of Lakeland, Fla., and Doug (Erin) Smith of Evanston; nine grandchildren, Jennifer (Frank III) Hatcher-Rano, Bronson Lackey, Chancellor (Rachel) Smith, Korianne Smith, Dakota Smith, Liam Ardon, Ainsley Doherty, Lucas Smith and Nicolette Smith; three great-grandchildren, Cassidy Hochstedler, Frank Rano III and Lily Lord; one sister, Beverly (Lloyd) Smith-Schneider of Princeton; and several nieces, nephews and aunts. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joyce Smith-Winters. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, at the Evangelical Covenant Church, Princeton, with Pastor Derek Boggs officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Princeton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 Wednesday, Oct. 8, at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home in Princeton. Memorials may be directed to the Evangelical Covenant Church in Princeton and the Princeton Youth Soccer League.
