Robert W. Mowbray, 80, of Bradford passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2011. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at Grant-Johnson Funeral Home in Bradford, with recitation of the rosary following. Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Bradford, with Father Vien Van Do officiating and Jack Real giving the eulogy. Inurnment will be in St. John Catholic Cemetery in Bradford, with military rites provided by Bradford American Legion Post No. 445. Bob was born June 16, 1931, in Bradford to Joseph and Evelyn (Breen) Mowbray. He graduated from Bradford High School in 1949. Bob served in the U.S. Marines as a corporal in the Korean conflict. He was postmaster in Bradford for 36 years. Survivors are three brothers, James (Leora) Mowbray of Warrenville, Paul (Carol) Mowbray of Kewanee and Joseph (Jean) Mowbray of Homewood; and several nieces and nephews. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, American Legion Post No. 445, Bradford Lions Club and Knights of Columbus. Bob was active in the horse-racing industry for many years as an owner of standardbred trotters and pacers. Bob was co-owner of a 3-year-old pacer, Pepe Dancer, who held the world record for the fourth-fastest competitive mile in the history of harness racing and the fastest ever by a pacer. Bob was an outstanding baseball pitcher in his youth and a loyal fan of the Chicago White Sox, Cubs, Bears and Notre Dame football.
