Robert B. Cotter, 55, of Pekin died at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, March 6, 2011, at his home. Born Dec. 12, 1955, in Rock Island to Jeremiah and Patricia (Donovan) Cotter, he married Julia Sendelbach July 23, 1977, in Tiskilwa. He was a 1975 graduate of Tiskilwa High School. He worked at Caterpillar in Mossville and the Dunlap School District for 20-plus years. He was a member of St. Judes Catholic Church in Peoria. Also surviving are his mother of Princeton; two daughters, Melissa (Nick) Kneip of Pekin and Brooke Garmann of Pekin; one son, Nic (Mandy) Cotter of East Peoria; two sisters, Mary Jean Tarrant of Greenbriar, Tenn., and Janet (Dave) Anderson of Naperville; two brothers, Christopher (Jackie) Cotter of Winnetka and John (Theresa) Cotter of Bradford; five grandchildren, Dominick and Brock Kneip, Veronica Garmann, and Kyra and Jazmyn Cotter; 12 nieces and nephews; Shaun, Kelly, Megan, Teresa, Doran, Shannon, Dylan, Gavin, Ashley, Brenna, Mason and Emmett; and the mother of his children, Julia Michael of Williamsville. He was preceded in death by his father. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary''s Catholic Church, Tiskilwa, with Father Kevin Creegan and Deacon John Murphy officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary''s Catholic Cemetery, Tiskilwa. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home in Princeton. Memorials may be directed to Muscular Dystrophy.

  1. My very deepest condolences to all of the family. I am so saddened by this news. Bob was the best friend anyone could ask for. I cannot even begin to express how much I am going to miss him. … I have written this elsewhere but will include it here too.

  5. I am so sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. I will always remember him as a fun-loving, kind-hearted man. Roger and I speak of him often, since he was the person responsible for us getting together. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

  7. Bob, was a wonderful man who would do anything for anybody. He had the gift of communication. He could and would talk to anybody he was around. Everybody knew him and if you knew him you automatically had to love him. He could really light up a room. He loved all of his kids and grandchildren very much. He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
