Richard Edwin Schertz, 81, of Tiskilwa died at 1:40 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton. Born March 3, 1931, in Bureau County, to Robert and Olive (Hager) Schertz, he married Sharon J. Irion Nov. 30, 1974, in Congerville, Ill. She survives. He was a lifetime farmer, and owner and operator of Schertz Countryside Sales in Tiskilwa. He was an active member of the National Farmer Organization. He enjoyed flying and watching various activities that his grandchildren participated in, and was actively involved in the Tiskilwa Mennonite Church and Christ Community Church in Princeton. He took great pride in mowing the church lawn for 25 years. He served with the National Guard. Also surviving are two daughters, JoAnn (Todd) Gibson of Tiskilwa and Jean Schertz of Princeton; one son, Joseph (Aimee`) Schertz of Joliet; six grandchildren, Tyler and Isabella Gibson, Christopher Schertz, and Alana, Alivia and Joseph Schertz; one sister, Judith (William) Schulze of Wisconsin; and one brother, Robert Schertz of Kewanee. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, David; and one sister, JoAnn. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Christ Community Church, Princeton, with Pastor Brian Strom officiating. Burial will be in Mount Bloom Cemetery, Tiskilwa. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the church and one hour prior to the services Thursday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Christ Community Church in Princeton.
