Raymond W. Johnson, 72, of Princeton passed away at 4:36 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, 2014, at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton. Born Dec. 12, 1941, in Bloomington to Ernest "Pete" and Helena (Gundy) Johnson, he married Barbara Syfert April 10, 1965, in Fairfield, Iowa. They divorced. He then married Shirley A. Lyles Oct. 15, 2011, in Princeton. She survives. He was a 1960 graduate of Ottawa High School. He was a lifetime farmer in LaSalle and Bureau counties, and worked at Albrecht Farms of Ohio, Ill., for 30 years. He was a lifelong member of New Hope Church of Nazarene, a Sunday school superintendent, a member of the church board and a member of the Lee County 4-H Fair Board Association for 20 years. He served in the Illinois National Guard. Also surviving are two daughters, Cindy (Ben) Atkinson of Princeton and Amy (Karl) Schaefer of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; two stepdaughters, Rachelle (Stephen) Silver of Ottawa and Tara (Elliot) Zinger of Oak Park; one stepson, Todd Olander of Sioux Falls, S.D.; nine grandchildren, Trevor and Courtney Atkinson, Colin Schafer, Hunter and Jacob Silver, Zachary and Addison Olander, and Sophia and Noah Zinger; and two brothers, Harry (Darlene) Johnson of Bloomington and Warren (Wanda) Johnson of Eureka. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, at the New Hope Church of Nazarene, Princeton, with Pastor Laura Tanner officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Princeton. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, at the church with military rites conducted by Princeton American Legion Post 125. Memorials may be directed to the New Hope Church of the Nazarene, 30 N. Sixth St., Princeton, IL 61356.
