Ray L. Kern, 74, of Princeton, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Allure of Walnut in Walnut, Illinois.

Ray was born on October 18, 1951, to Kenneth Elmer and Joyce Nadine (Kline) Kern. He graduated from Morris High School with the Class of 1971. Following graduation, he attended truck driving school and went on to enjoy a lifelong career as an over-the-road truck driver.

In his free time, Ray enjoyed bass fishing and faithfully attended the Princeton Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Ray is survived by his three siblings: Gary (Linda) Kern of Princeton, Illinois; Don Kern of Townsend, Georgia; and Debbie (Gene) Phister of St. Charles, Missouri. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Elmer and Joyce Nadine Kern; one brother, Kenneth Elmer Kern, Jr and sister-in-law, Lois Kern.

A private celebration of Ray’s life will be held at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Princeton Seventh-day Adventist Church in Princeton, Illinois.

  2. Ray was such a “ray” of sunshine at our church. The ladies always made sure he got his healthy dose of hugs for the week. It was such a blessed time for me getting to know him on our rides to and from church. Ray’s presence will be missed by so many.

  5. We are so saddened to hear about our sweet buddy Ray. We loved to joke with him at church and watch his face light up with joy. He is already missed by all of us. See you later alligator. ❤️

  6. Even though I only met Ray about once a month over the last 3 years or so, the first few months I met Ray in church he cried a lot. He was mourning so much loss. The last two years of our relationship, he was only smiling. That is why his smiles have impacted me so much. That change in him brought so much joy to us. See you in the Resurrection Morning Ray. You will be missed.
