Peter Primo

Peter Primo, 90, of Sheffield passed away at 3:40 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2013, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Born Feb. 5, 1923, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Paul and Adelina (Boschetti) Primo, he married Evelyn Nelson Aug. 8, 1964, in Sheffield. She died in 1976. He then married Madelyn F. Benson May 24, 1980, in Princeton. She died June 30, 2010. Surviving are one brother, Mando (Nellie) Primo of Riverview, Fla.; one sister-in-law, Harriett Primo of Sheffield; three nieces, Lea Ann (Rob) Stone of Metamora, MaryLee (Jim) Snyders of Brandon, Fla,, and Deb Stier of Sheffield; five great-nieces and great-nephews; and 11 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Daniel and Tilio Primo; two nephews, Gary and Larry Primo; one niece, Marva Boyles; and one great-great-niece. He was a graduate of Sheffield Community High School. He had worked at Ohio River Boat, Sheffield Shale Products and Hyster in Kewanee. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of St. Patrick''s Catholic Church in Sheffield and Mineral American Legion Post 1031. A memorial funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick''s Catholic Church, Sheffield, with Father Paul Meismer officiating. Burial will be in the Sheffield Cemetery, Sheffield, at later date. Military rites will be accorded by Mineral American Legion Post 1031. A gathering will be from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church in Sheffield or the Sheffield Rescue Squad.
