Norma M. Hamrick

Norma M. Hamrick, 96, of Wyanet, IL passed away Sunday, March 13, 2022 at OSF St. Clare Medical Center in Princeton, IL.
Norma was born January 16,1926 in Gold Township, the daughter of Kenneth W. and Mary (Linaweaver) Streicher.
She began her education in the Mosier one room school house north of Wyanet before the family moved to a farm north of Sheffield. She graduated from Sheffield High School with the class of 1943.
She married Armour E. Hamrick in November of 1947 in Sheffield, IL
She went to work right out of high school and had several jobs throughout her working lifetime, including Green River Ordinance in Amboy, Kraft Cheese in Manlius, bus driver for the Wyanet school systems, Jostens, Husser’s House of Gifts and Flowers, Merkley’s House and Garden, and Flowers by Julia, from where she retired in 1989.
She was a seventy-three year resident of Wyanet and served on the Wyanet Elementary School Board.
She is survived by one son, Steve (Tamela) Hamrick of Princeton, IL; two grandchildren: Jennifer (Matt) Gerdes of Western Springs, IL and Scott (Jennifer) Hamrick of Griffith, IN: four great-grandchildren: Ella Gerdes, Eli Gerdes, Brooks Hamrick, and Dalton Hamrick; one sister, Betty Jones of Reidsville, NC, one nephew: Gary R. Jones, Youngsville, NC and one very special friend, Pam Wroblewski, the “daughter she never had”, Wyanet, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Kendall A. Hamrick; a brother-in-law, Robert V. Jones; and a nephew, Gregory L. Jones.
Norma was a devoted sports fan, attending all of her grandkid’s athletic events. She was a fanatic follower of the Cubs and Bulls as well as the University of Illinois men’s basketball team. She was member of the United Church of Christ, Sheffield.
A visitation will be held at the United Church of Christ in Sheffield from 11am to 12 pm with funeral service to follow on Saturday, March 19, 2022. A private burial will take place in Sheffield Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the United Church of Christ, Sheffield or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Norma was a great friend to my grandmother Marie Miller. I always enjoyed listening to those two talk and spending time with Norma. She was a great lady.
Norma was the Aunt of my deceased husband, Greg. She was so loved by our family In North Carolina. Greg and I flew out to Illinois for our honeymoon so I could meet his Aunt Norma and his Grandparents 46 years ago. May God be with you all in your time of sorrow. We will be praying for peace and comfort for each of you in the days ahead. Love to all❤️
I mowed her home in wyanet for many years. a very nice lady. God speed.
Norma was the aunt of my husband, Gary Jones. She was so beloved by her North Carolina family. I fell in love with her spirit & humor. We talked to her a few months ago, & she was in good spirits. She will be sorely missed. Our thoughts & prayers with her family & friends during this time. Thinking of you in the coming days & so sorry for your loss!! We send you our love.
