Mildred Louise Foes, 83, of Sheffield, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at The Courtyard at McHenry in McHenry, Illinois.
Mildred was born on July 11, 1943, to Elmer and Gladys (Ouart) Witte. She graduated from Annawan High School with the Class of 1961 before attending nursing school in Canton, Illinois, where she became a Registered Nurse. During her 25-year nursing career, she cared for countless patients while working at Prairie View Nursing Home and the Sheffield Clinic.
On January 15, 1965, Mildred married her high school sweetheart, Gerald Morris Foes, in Arlington, Virginia, while Gerald was serving in the United States Air Force. They shared many wonderful years together until his passing on April 1, 2019.
Mildred was a caregiver through and through. Whether caring for her patients, supporting her friends, or loving her family, she always put others first. She enjoyed reading spiritual books and listening to Christian music. A devoted member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Sheffield, she generously volunteered with blood drives and funeral luncheons. Above all else, Mildred treasured her family, who were the center of her life.
She is lovingly survived by her three children, Cristy (John) Stupegia of Hammond, Indiana; Cathy (Joel) Soto of McHenry, Illinois; and Dan (Bridget) Foes of Princeton, Illinois. She also leaves behind four grandchildren, Grant (Cali) Foes, Ben Stupegia, Morgan Foes, and Brady Soto; one great-grandchild on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Gerald; and her three siblings, Jenean Betz, Ruth Ann Van Hyfte, and Gale Witte.
