Maryella Elizabeth (Dean) Goldsmith, 80 of Galva, IL passed away peacefully, Friday, November 5, 2021, at her daughter’s home. She was born on May 7, 1941 in Wethersfield, IL, daughter of Carl Dean Sr. and Ruth (Etter-Dean) Tomlinson.
She moved to Galva, IL in 1969 with her five children. Surviving are Mrs. Laura Verkruyse (Jim) Albrecht of Tiskilwa, Tony/Wayne (Pat) Goldsmith of Geneseo, Lisa Goldsmith of East Peoria with fiancée Curtis Potter of Bishop Hill, Ian Goldsmith and Tricia Fazzini of Bloomington, Shane Goldsmith and Carol Jinkerson-Goldsmith of Jay, Florida. Two brothers Carl (Judy) Dean II of Madison, FL and Owen (Sheila) Dean of Van Buren, AR, step-brother Theodore Leland Tomlinson of Delevan, IL; ten grandchildren: Stacey (Rick) Fleming, Katy Albrecht, Kelly Goldsmith, Kyle Goldsmith, Traci Fandel, John Donnell Jr., Andrea Goldsmith (Jason) Durham, Alex Fazzini, Brandi Jinkerson (Henry) Andino, Amber (Jinkerson) Taylor; sixteen great grandchildren; Makayla Martin, Catilin Fleming, Nicholas Fleming, Gregory Fleming, Amelia Fleming, Natalie Platz, Owen King, Brooklyn Arrington, Hannah Fandel, Jaycee Kinman, Lucy Jackson, Evelyn Durham, Jeffrey Durham, Lexi Durham, James Durham and Raigan Taylor.
Her parents, step-father Leland Tomlinson, one sister Mrs. Lysandra (Omer) Herbert, one grandson Ryan Goldsmith, two nephews Bryan Light and Patrick Dean preceded her in death.
She attended Wethersfield High School and graduated high school with her GED. She taught American Red Cross First Aid and CPR courses. Worked as an EMT for the Galva Ambulance Service. She taught weaving classes at the Blackhawk East College campus and at Bishop Hill Founders events.
She enjoyed many things in life including her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren, weaving, knitting and made many hats, gloves, afghans, scarves, and baby blankets. She was a member in the Rebekah Lodge #512 of Kewanee, Galva American Legion Hagberg-Hamlin Post 45 and the Fiber Guild.
Cremation rites have been accorded with a celebration of life planned in the spring. Memorials may be directed to the Henry County Humane Society in her memory. Online condolences may be sent to www.grant-johnsonfh.com.
I can only feel sad, yet okay with ME’s passing. She had a long battle with cancer and yet I will miss her, especially going to the Galva Legion Breakfasts. It seems that we’ve been friends forever or almost that long. God hold her in his hands and she will advise him.
Mary Ella was the most loving woman, mother in law, friend I could ever have had in my life. Was an example to me of grace and love in action. She always gave to others, even though she did not always have alot herself. I will miss her greatly and her listening ear, that was always there for me
