Marvin N. Hartz

Marvin N. Hartz, age76, of rural Tampico died at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at home with his family surrounding him. He fought a courageous battle with cancer.
Marvin was born on January 22, 1946, in Princeton, Illinois, the son of Vernon H. and Blanche M. (Nicholas) Hartz. He was united in marriage to Nancy M. Dabler on March 26, 1966 at the First Baptist Church of Manlius. She survives. He graduated from Manlius High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict serving as a Forward Observer and Computer Technician in the Fire Direction Center for four deuce mortars. He farmed for over 25 years. While still farming he began employment with the U.S. Postal Service as a Rural Letter Carrier serving Prophetstown and Erie. He also served on different committees in the Hawkeye District for the Post Office. He retired in 2012. After retiring Marvin then drove part-time for the Bureau County Senior Center.
He was an avid fast pitch softball player for over 35 years. Marvin sang with the Bureau County Barbershop Chorus for over twenty years as well as a mixed gospel quartet and a Barbershop quartet. He enjoyed singing the four-part harmonies.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy, one daughter, Gayle (Michael) Casey of Villa Park, one grandchild, Ethan Casey of Villa Park, four sisters Helen Hurley of Princeton, Norma Hansen of Tampico, Ethel (Stanley) Jensen of Tampico, and Elaine (Richard) Albright of Aurora. His parents, his brother, Gene, and one son, Jeffrey, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Princeton with Pastor William Shields officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 25,2022 evening at the Grant Johnson Funeral Home in Princeton. Burial will be in the Manlius Cemetery.
