Marva Lou Platz, 73, of Walnut, formerly of Manlius and Princeton, died at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton. Born March 3, 1937, in Tampico to Oscar and Ellen (Claussen) Johnson, she married Elwood Platz June 23, 1956. He died Feb. 24, 1988. Surviving are one son, Doug (Julie) Platz of Manlius; three grandchildren, Tiffany Platz of Naperville, and Andrew and Alex Platz of Geneseo; two stepgrandchildren, Nick and Kyle Decker of Manlius; two sisters, Edna Peterson of Mundelein and Dorothy Simon of Chicago; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Johnson of Sterling; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Raymond and Robert Johnson; and two brothers-in-law, Roger Peterson and Frank Simon. She was a 1954 graduate of Manlius High School. She was a homemaker, and owner and operator of Sweets & Things in Manlius. She was also a waitress for many years. She was a member of the New Bedford Christian Church, and played softball for many years. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Manlius Cemetery, Manlius, with the Rev. Brenda Lovick officiating. Burial will be in the Manlius Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will follow the services at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manlius. Memorials may be directed to the Manlius Rescue Squad and Walnut Manor. Pallbearers: Andrew Platz, Bob Hensel, Bill Doty, Wilbur King, Dick Woodley and Bill Wessel. Honorary Pallbearers: Shirley Lootens, Millie Carr, Mary Woodley and Judy Swanson.
