Marion Emeline Carper, 103, of Princeton, formerly of Buda, died at 5:40 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at Colonial Hall in Princeton. She was born Aug. 24, 1908, in Buda to Martin and Cora (Pottorf) Carper. She graduated from Buda High School and Illinois State University in Normal. She was a teacher for 44 years. She taught in a one-room school house for 17 years in rural Buda and 27 years in the Buda Grade School. She was a member of the Buda United Methodist Church until it closed, Rebeka and the Bureau County Genealogical Society. Surviving are five nieces, Patty (Larry) Varner of Galva, Christy (Bob) Huff of South Carolina, Jackie (Bill) Lazo of Joliet, Carla (Scott) Boyden of Galesburg and Pam Lynch of Littleton, Colo.; four nephews, Marty (Barb) Carper of Utica, Ky., Gary (Susan) Kopp of Parker, Colo., Lee (Barb) Carper of Princeton and Bob (Natalie) Carper of Streator; and great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Frederick, Robert and John Carper; and two sisters, Hazel Paul and Kathryn Kopp. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Princeton, with the Rev. Eldon Cook officiating. Burial will be in the Bunker Hill Cemetery in rural Buda. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the donor''s choice.
