I worked with Marilyn at Northwestern Steel for over 40 years. She came to Northwestern right after graduating from Walnut High School in 1957, living at the YWCA in Sterling, and began her career in the payroll department. She transferred to the Accounting department in 1959, where she worked for the rest of her career. She was part of the team that assisted in converting a hand written accounting system to a modern computer system from 1965 to 1970 and beyond. Marilyn and I retired on the same day and she was recognized at a retirement luncheon that was attended by company officers and fellow employees, including the company’s president. Marilyn was representative of the small-town girl with a farming background who knew how to work hard and took her responsibilities seriously. She was a loyal friend who was a joy to work beside. She will remain in our hearts as a person that we were happy to have known.
