Lyle G Squires

Lyle G. Squires, 82, of LaSalle, formerly of Kasbeer, passed away at 7:28 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014, at the LaSalle Veterans Home in LaSalle. Born Aug. 20, 1931, in Arlington, Iowa, to Chesley Grover and Vera C. (Corey) Squires, he married Gladys Marie Anderson May 9, 1953, in Arlington, Iowa. She died Dec. 26, 2006. He graduated from high school in Arlington, Iowa. He was a farmer and had been employed by the Department of Conservation at the Hennepin Canal in Sheffield. He was an airman in the U.S. Air Force, serving with the 449th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron Apo 731 during the Korean Conflict. He attended the First Christian Church in Princeton and the Red Oak United Methodist Church in Walnut. Surviving are two sons, James (Cindy) Squires of Rapid City, S.D., and William (Robbin) Squires of Princeton; two daughters, Nancy (James) Ross of Omaha, Neb., and Susan (Rodney) Wangelin of LaSalle; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Vida, Elsie, Bulah and Hattie; and three brothers, Grover, Clarence and Steven. Services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Princeton, with Pastor Carl Johnson officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at Elm Lawn Memorial Park, Princeton. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family so they may donate a memorial for LaSalle Veterans Home.
