Lola Barker

Lola "Mae" Barker, 87, of Wyanet died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at her home. Born May 23, 1922, in Wahoo, Neb., to Floyd and Lillian (Clement) Turner, she graduated from Bradford High School in 1941 and married Carl LaVern "Jake" Barker on April 26, 1942, in Bradford. He died Dec. 10, 1993. She was a life-long homemaker and giver of hospitality. She helped in the family business of Barker Milling Service and later Barker Milling and Grain. She was a charter member of the Princeton Bible Church, a Sunday school teacher, and active in women''s Bible studies and ministries. She hosted and taught Kids'' Klub in her Wyanet home and in the Wyanet area for many years. She was also active in the leadership and as a member of the Princeton Christian Women''s Club. Surviving are one daughter, Beverly (Tom) Odell of Wyanet; two sons, Ralph (Donna) Barker of Wyanet and Everett (Terrie) Barker of Edinburg, Texas; eight grandchildren, Kimberly (Chuck) Lambert of Sterling, Kan., Curtis (Jessica) Odell of Princeton, Anjee (Dan) Thorp of Vernon Hills, Clarissa (Ryan) Coley and Lisa Barker, both of Salt Lake City, Utah, Aaron (Joy) Barker of Rock Falls, Andy (Danyelle) Barker of rural Dixon and Daniel Barker of Edinburg, Texas; 13 great-grandchildren; four brothers Jim (Laverne) Turner of Callahan, Fla., Lee (Clara) Turner of Buda, Lester (Phyllis) Turner of Kasbeer and Donald (Janet) Turner of Stillman Valley; two sisters-in-law, Ida (Willis) Turner of Rockford and Ruth (Mark) Turner of Henry; and 16 nieces and eight nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Clara McLane; and two brothers, Willis and Mark Turner. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Princeton Bible Church, located one mile northeast of Princeton on Route 34. Officiating at the service will be Rev. Ken Wilson. Interment will be at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Wyanet. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home in Princeton.
