Lois A. Smith, 90, of Neponset died at 5:38 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at Liberty Village of Princeton. Born Jan. 6, 1925, in Sheffield to Harry and Julia (Olsen) Barton, she married Edward L. Smith Dec. 10, 1943, in Mineral. He died March 27, 1974. She was a 1942 graduate of Sheffield High School. She worked at Van-Packer in Buda for nine years and at Prairie View Nursing Home in Princeton for 17 years. She retired in 1985. Surviving are six sons, Marlin (Jeanie) Smith of Fayetteville, N.C., William (Connie) Smith of Sheffield, Jeffrey (Phyllis) Smith of Olney, Dale (Michelle) Smith of Buda, Kent Smith of Sheffield and Keith (Julie) Smith of Bloomington; three daughters, Julie (Norman) Thurwanger of Sheffield, Sheila (John) Thurwanger of Neponset and Lisa (Barry) Aber of Buda; two brothers, Harley (Yvonne) Barton of Sheffield and Harry (Beverly) Barton of Sheffield; 35 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Kenneth and Raymond Barton; two sisters, Shirley Barton and Susie Riggs; two sons, Ronald and Edward Eugene; and one daughter, Ina Marie Smith. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 21, at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Princeton, with Pastor Terry Lancaster officiating. Burial will be in the Sheffield Cemetery, Sheffield. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association; Vitas Hospice Care, 105 Marquette St., LaSalle, IL 61301; and Sheffield United Methodist Church.
