Leota Marie Peterson, 86, of Princeton, formerly of Manlius, died at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 8, 2011, at Colonial Hall in Princeton. Born Sept. 30, 1924, in rural Sheffield to Andrew Wallace (Louise Behrens) Jensen, she married Alvin Merl Peterson in Pensacola, Fla., on June 28, 1944. He died March 1, 1972. Survivors include four daughters, Dorothy A. (Jerry) McReynolds of Ohio, Patricia L. Zurliene of Princeton, Christine L. (Alan) Dale of Walnut, and Janelle M. (Gail) Barton of Wyanet; one daughter-in-law, Sharon Peterson of Princeton; seven grandchildren, Julie (Dale) Ioder of Ohio, John (Kim) McReynolds of Donavan, Iowa, Matthew Dale of Walnut, Sherri (Michael) Thacker of Walnut, Brandon (Ryane) Barton of Plainfield, Rebekah (Kyle) Johnson of Sheffield, and Sarah Peterson of Princeton; nine great-grandchildren, MacKenzie Ioder of Ohio, Brittany and Maggie McReynolds of Sheffield, Emma, Gracelyn and Treyson Dale of Walnut, Ella Thacker of Walnut, and Meryn and Piper Barton of Plainfield. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Alvy M. Peterson; a sister, Loretta Jensen; and a son-in-law, Ralph "Pete" Zurliene. She graduated from Manlius High School in 1942 and worked in the office for Kraft Foods in Manlius; an in-home caregiver for elderly. She was also a homemaker and worked in the cafeteria in Manlius. She was a secretary at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manlius, WELCA, Sunday school teacher, Eastern Star. She loved fishing, gardening, Bingo and playing cards. She was also an FFA Chapter mother, FHA Chapter mother, Camp Fire leader, Manlius Cub Scout leader and enjoyed being "Grandma Pete". Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manlius, the Rev. Brenda Lovick officiating. Burial will be in the Manlius Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the church and one hour prior to services.
