Leo R. Fuertges, 90, of Bradford passed away Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at Kewanee Hospital in Kewanee, Ill. He was born Nov. 11, 1922, in Bradford to Henry and Adelia (Steimle) Fuertges. He is survived by one sister, Mary Helen Hickey of Bradford. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mary Frances Sanders; and three brothers, George, Donatus and Bernard Fuertges. Leo graduated from Bradford High School in 1940. He was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Bradford. He was a charter member of Bradford Lions Club. Leo spent his working career in the grocery business in Bradford, first working for his father and uncle at Fuertges Brothers Grocery store and later as co-owner with his brother Bernard "Bummy" of Fuertges Brothers Red Fox Store and finally for its successor, Bradford Red Fox. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Bradford, with Father Vien Van Do officiating. Burial will be in the St. John Catholic Cemetery in rural Bradford. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, in the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home in Bradford. Memorials may be directed to St. John''s church or the Bradford Rescue Squad.
