Judith Marlene (Cook) Lathrop, 87, of New Bedford, Illinois died on Sunday, February 13, 2022 at OSF St. Clare Medical Center in Princeton, Illinois.

Judy was born July 19, 1934 to F. Gwynne and Janet (Kerr) Cook in Peoria, Illinois. She attended Webster Grade School and Rooslevelt Jr. High in Peoria and Manlius High School graduating in 1952 after moving to New Bedford in 1948.

She was a member of the New Bedford Christian Church (Disciples) where she was an Elder Emeritus. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors of America and was a Chancellor for many years. She had worked at Manlius High School, Frantz Manufacturing, Harper-Wyman and finally the New Bedford Post Office where she retired in 1996 after 17 years of service.

She was married on January 2, 1954 to the love of her life, Lester ""Spank" Lathrop. They had three children: Scott of Tampico, Sheri of New Bedford, and Shanda (Mike) Hilmes of New Bedford; five grandchildren: Alec, Ashlie, Tori, Gillian, and Damien; and five great-grandchildren: Zerelda, Taylor, Marlene, Ella, and Leland, whom she loved with all her heart. She has one brother, Fred (Bonnie) Cook of Mahomet.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and Spank, her husband of 63 years.

Cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial service will be held at the New Bedford Christian Church on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Troy Campbell officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Memorials may be directed to the New Bedford Christian Church in lieu of flowers.
