Joyce Elaine Jacobson, 83, of New Bedford passed away Easter Sunday morning, March 31, 2013, at Symphony Nursing Home of Lincoln, Ill. Joyce Elaine Jacobson, the daughter of Frank and Gertie Lindelof, passed away quietly on Sunday, March 31, 2013, from complications associated with a series of surgeries beginning on Dec. 11, 2012. Joyce was born June 27, 1929, on the family farm west of New Bedford. She graduated from Manlius High School and attended Eureka College. Joyce spent her entire life in the New Bedford (Tailholt) area. Joyce and her husband of 58 years, Chuck, lived in several locations in and near New Bedford. Joyce was a farmwife, a worker at Kraft Foods in Manlius, Harper Wyman in Princeton, but primarily a loving wife and mother of a beautiful daughter and three sons. After Chuck retired in 1989, he and Joyce became regulars on the corn sorting circuit. Their primary employer was Wiffels. Many stories and mischief were associated with their days at Wiffels. But mostly Joyce loved the camaraderie and fun with fellow sorters. Joyce was an avid cook and loved entertaining family at her house at special times of the year. Her favorite season was Christmas where she could bake to her hearts content and Chuck would do the dishes. They were a great team. Joyce was a member of New Bedford Christian Church. She served for many years as a village trustee for the village of New Bedford and during that time hosted many of the village monthly meetings at her home in New Bedford. Notably, Joyce was what could be described as, an assistant WQAD weather watcher for many years. Many in the WQAD viewing area knew that a reliable person was on the job gathering important weather information for the viewing area around New Bedford. Joyce loved this job and had great fun meeting the other weather watchers annually as well as the meteorologists at WQAD. She is survived by three sons, Bruce and wife, Peggy, of Glenarm, Jerry and wife, Judy, of Elk Grove and Chris and wife, Trisha, of Morton; and one daughter, Julie Hartz of Manlius. Joyce was very proud of her 11 grandchildren, seven boys and four girls, and 15 great-grandchildren, ten boys and five girls. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Chuck; her parents; two sisters, Rubye Lindelof Dale and Dorothy Lindelof Becker; and two brothers, Leo Lindelof and Gene Lindelof. Services for Joyce Elaine Jacobson will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the New Bedford Christian Church with Minister David Berry officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Manlius, and also one hour prior to the services Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be offered to the New Bedford Christian Church, 434 Main St., New Bedford, IL 61346.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Our thoughts are with you at this time of sorrow. Joyce was a grand neighbor and a good friend

  2. My condolenses to Joyce’s family. I remember fondly those days at WQAD when Chuck and Joyce were members of our “weather watching” team. Talking to joyce was always a hoot with Chuck giving instruction from the background. Again, my condolences.

  3. My thoughts and prayers go out to Joyce’s family. I was in the wedding party for Chuck and Joyce as their ring bearer. When ever I would see Joyce, she would always call me her “little ring bearer, Richie Nelson”. Always such a kind and gracious lady.
