Joyce E. Woods peacefully went home to Jesus on January 26, 2017 in Ottawa, IL. Joyce is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, LaVerne (Woody) Woods. She also leaves her two daughters, Dr. Dawn Woods (Dr. Taka Nomura) of Santa Barbara, Ca. and Lisa Berryman (Kevin) of Ottawa, IL. Joyce was a dedicated and loving Grandma to her six Grandchildren. Benjamin and Natalie Nomura, Zachary, Daniel (Shana), Elizabeth (Tyler Bernardoni) and Nathan Berryman (Hannah Simpson). She was also blessed with three Great-grandchildren Aubrey and Danie Berryman and Will Bernardoni. Also surviving are her two sisters Donna Crowl and Delores Seastrom (Jack) both of Jamestown, NY. Her sister Linda Klein preceded her in death. Joyce is reunited with her sons in Heaven, L. Mark who passed away in 1967 and Linden (Lindy) who passed away in 1988. Her family rejoices in the knowledge that she is now at peace in the arms of her Savior. Joyce was born on January 1, 1934 in Warren, PA to Walter T. Thurston and Agnes R. Briggs. She married LaVerne M. Woods on August 28, 1952. Joyce was passionate about her career as church choir director; combining both her love of music and the love of the Lord. She blessed many people with her gift of singing. A celebration of her life will take place on Monday, February 6th at 11:00 am at First Lutheran Church in Princeton, IL. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:00-11:00 also at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer''s Association.

  1. Thoughts and prayers to you all. I have many fond memories of Joyce……from traveling from NY to IL for visits to meeting the Woods family for vacation in Georgia. God Bless you all for everything you have done for her peaceful passing.

  3. Joyce was a wonderful lady. I enjoyed listening to her sing when she was at St. Matthews Lutheran Church. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers as you mourn the loss of your wife, mother and sister.

  4. I know you will miss Joyce greatly but how wonderful that she is safely with Jesus for eternity. I always loved being in her choir. She was an awesome director!
