John Robert "Bob" Herrmann

John Robert "Bob" Herrmann, 85  formerly of Bradford, died at his home in Dunlap, IL on April 27, 2023.  He was born on November 6, 1937 in Chicago, IL, to parents, Ross Edward and Marie Estelle (O'Connor) Herrmann.

On February 7, 1959, Bob married the love of his life, Mary Louise Wall at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Bradford, IL.  They spent 64 wonderful years together. 

Bob was a 1955 graduate of Bradford High School and then attended Barber School in Peoria, IL.  Bob enjoyed his barber career for many years, before joining Caterpillar and was a boiler room operator for a number of plants during his 30 year service to CAT.

Bob liked to play cards…loved having coffee uptown with his friends…and his family describes him as a people-person.  Bob and Mary enjoyed traveling and his most favorite trip is when their kids surprised them with a trip to Hawaii for their 50th wedding anniversary.

Bob is survived by his wife, Mary, their 3 children, Brian (Mary) Herrmann of Eagle Grove, IA, Melody Maurer of Clearwater, FL and Darin (Shelly) Herrmann of Peoria, IL.  Bob is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and his great nieces and nephews.  Bob is preceded in death by his parents,  his brother, Ross, 2 brother in laws, Bob Brushwyler, Ron Wall, his sister-in-law, Blanche Wall, his son-in-law Joseph Maurer, and 2 great nephews, Andrew and Kaden Wall.

Cremation rites will be accorded.  There will be a memorial mass at 11:00am on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Bradford, IL.  Burial will be at the St. John the Baptist Cemetery. 

Memorials may be directed to the Illinois Cancer Center, Peoria, IL or to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Bradford.

  1. I had many fine memories getting my hair cut there as a boy Bradford is full of really fine people!

  2. Bob’s barbershop was a favorite hang-out when I was in high school. He was only about 10 years older than we were, so he seemed so much cooler than our parents (haha) He related very well to us teenagers, and gave a mighty fine haircut to boot.
