John Delbert Edlefson

John "Delbert" Edlefson, 88, of Manlius died at 6:05 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, at Walnut Manor in Walnut. Born March 12, 1922, in Manlius to John and Elsie (Anspach) Edlefson, he married Vera A. Pierson Oct. 11, 1944, in Manlius. She died June 13, 2007. A 1939 graduate of Manlius High School, he was a lifetime farmer. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manlius. He served with the U.S. Marines as a master technician, serving during World War II in the South Pacific. Surviving are three sons, Larry (Kathy) Edlefson of Kalamazoo, Mich., Allen (Ruth) Edlefson of St. Joseph, Mich., and Gail (Sue) Edlefson of Manlius; one daughter, Sheryl (Dale) Vitosh of Iowa City, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, Robin (Jason) Overby, John (Mumtaz) Edlefson, Aaron (Michelle) Edlefson, Brian (Chas) Edlefson, Kevin (Amy) Edlefson, Adam (Melanie) Edlefson, Nathan (Sara) Edlefson, Jesse (Jennifer) Edlefson, Peter Edlefson, Jay Edlefson, Julia Edlefson and Amy (Dan) Uitermark; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Milton and Robert; and four sisters, Helen Edlefson, Beulah Wessel, Ruby Fetterolf and Ona Oiler. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manlius, with the Rev. Brenda Lovick officiating. Burial will be in the Manlius Cemetery, Manlius, with military rites conducted by Wyanet VFW Post 6634. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Memorials may be directed to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manlius. Pallbearers: Brian, John, Kevin, Adam, Nathan, Jesse, Aaron, Peter and Jay Edlefson. Flowerbearers: Robin Overby, Amy Uitermark and Julia Edlefson.
