John A. Pfaff

John A. Pfaff, 89, of Princeton passed away at 12:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017, at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton. Born May 12, 1927, in Weehawken, N.J., to John A. and Esther (Loftus) Pfaff, he married Joanne A. Chequer Sept. 25, 1954, in St. Francis Mission Church in Lake Pleasant, N.Y. She survives. He was a graduate of West Field High School in Westfield, N.J. He attended Villanova University for two years and after the Korean War he completed his bachelor''s degree at Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y., his father''s alma mater. He was employed by U.S. Life Insurance Company and retired from Group Administration Agency in Chicago. He was a former member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in St. Charles and a current member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Princeton. He was a dedicated mentor in AA for many years, an avid gardener and enjoyed playing the piano. He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army Infantry, serving in World War II and the Korean War. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Also surviving are one son, John Anthony (Deb) Pfaff of St. Charles; two daughters, Esther F. Pfaff of Gunnison, Colo., and Charlotte A. Pfaff of Anaconda, Mont.; and two grandsons, John Hamilton Pfaff of St. Charles and Garrett Thomas Pfaff of St. Charles. He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant daughters, Sophia and Julia Pfaff; three sisters, Mary Davie, Esther Pfaff and Jane Bertucio; and one brother, Peter Pfaff.
