Joella Nichols, 87, of Malden, passed away Monday, September 18th, 2023 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family.

Cremation rites have been accorded and a graveside service will be held on Saturday September 23rd at 11am at Malden Cemetery.

Joella was born on December 5th, 1935, in Princeton, to Dorothy (Barrett) Grossman and John Stevenson Jr. She grew up in Ohio Illinois. She married Gerald “Jerry” Marshall Nichols Sr in LaSalle Illinois. She is survived by her four children Gerald (Denise) Nichols Jr, Dennis (Korina) Nichols, Sondra (Scott) Smith, and David Nichols, along with her sister, Janice (Larry) Neff and brother-in-law Les Strouss.  

She leaves behind her loving grandchildren including Laramie (Marina) Storm, Amy Nichols, Marshall (Jennifer) Nichols, Samantha (Adam) Knudsen, Sierra Storm, Samantha Burch, Codi (Kelsey) Bruns, and Katie (Nick) Catton. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren Paxton and Brixston Knudsen, Scarlett, Olive, and Dahlia Nichols, Ellie, Adalie, and Averie Bruns, and Raeleigh and Jaxon Catton. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister Sandra Strouss.

Joella had a lot of hobbies including ceramics, crafting, painting, and quilting. She enjoyed being outdoors watching birds and fishing. She was a dedicated worker for Harper Wyman and Walmart after retiring at 80 years old.
