Jerry R. Hochstatter, 78, of Sheffield died at 11:09 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9, 2016, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. Born Feb. 10, 1938, in Princeton to Russel and Elaine (Ross) Hochstatter, he married Joyce Grampp June 7, 1964, in the Walnut United Methodist Church. She survives. He graduated from Wyanet High School in 1956 and from Bradley University in Peoria in 1960. He was a lifetime farmer. He served in the U.S. Air National Guard. He was a member of the Sheffield United Methodist Church and the Bureau County Farm Bureau, and was the director for many years for the Bureau County Cattlemen''s Association. Also surviving are one son, Jeff Hochstatter of Wyanet; one daughter, Julie (Tim) Stephens of Effingham; eight grandchildren, Alex (Alessandra) Knisley of Macon, Ga., Julia Hochstatter of Princeton, and Tanner, Alexis, Alayna, Carley, Quentin and Sydney Stephens of Effingham; one brother, Brian (Joyce) Hochstatter of Sterling; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

  1. Very sorry for your loss. I was glad to get to know Jerry a bit through his wife Joyce. He certainly weathered many storms with great strength. Admired his courage. May he find peace.

  6. Jerry was so very kind to visit with Bill during his stay in Geneseo Hospital. Bill always spoke very kindly of Jerry and their memories of long ago days at Wyanet High School. Always remember the good times, Joyce.

  7. Saddened to hear that Jerry died . He will be missed by his family and friends. Jerry was always ready to listen to a story or tell one of his. I will miss him.

  8. So sad to learn that Jerry has passed away. He had such a big heart, and always went out of his way to be patient with this “City Boy from Sheffield” when I visited the farm. I’ll always remember Jerry with a smile, and laugh a little bit when I think about some of the stories he would spin whenever we met. My heart goes out to Joyce, Jeff, and Julie for their loss. Jerry will always be fondly remembered by the entire Kuster family.
