Janice Marie Dabler

Janice Marie Dabler, 76, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, September 25, 2026, surrounded by her family. She had a short battle with pancreatic cancer, and she fought courageously with her husband by her side.

She spent her childhood in Tiskilwa and graduated from high school in 1968. Her childhood years were made happier by her loving grandmother, Clara, who helped her become a caring woman who gave of her time and resources to help others. Throughout her life, Janice encouraged others through her generous acts of kindness.

Janice married the love of her life, Dennis Keith Dabler, on July 20, 1969, in the Tiskilwa Methodist Church. They shared their wedding date with a historical moment when the first man landed on the moon that same day! They enjoyed a long marriage of love, partnership, and support and celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2019. Janice was grateful to have the joy of raising their son, Michael, in the Princeton community and sharing many happy memories of family life. She endured numerous health challenges in recent years, but Janice faced her struggles with hope. She and Dennis also spent many months traveling to Indiana to support their daughter-in-law, Becky, during her cancer journey.

Janice was an original 1986 Walmart Associate with 30 years of service. She was an organizer at heart and loved helping her co-workers do their jobs easier and more efficiently. Janice was well-liked in the store and tried to make the “work” fun for everyone in the clothing departments. She was friendly to customers as a fitting-room attendant, and she enjoyed helping them decide on their purchases.

With a “green thumb,” she loved flowers and plants and all things pretty. She decorated her homes, inside and out, with seasonal reminders of creation and beauty. When several strokes limited her mobility, she continued to care for her home with determination and independence while enjoying her time with Dennis.

She also enjoyed watching the WNBA, March Madness Tournament, and the Chicago Cubs.

A favorite thought of hers was, “Live life to your fullest. Enjoy every day and be happy; life on earth is a short time.”

Janice is survived by her husband, Dennis, of Princeton, IL, and her son, Michael Keith Dabler, of Chesterton, IN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Blanche (Thompson) Janssen, and a brother, along with her daughter-in-law, Rebecca A. (Wink) Dabler.

A Celebration of Life will be held with immediate family on Friday, October 2, 2026. Cremation Rites have been accorded. Interment will be at Elm Lawn Memorial Park in Princeton, IL, at a later date.
