James S. Christian, 64, of Wyanet died at 5:25 a.m. Sunday, June 14, 2009, at Colonial Hall Care Center in Princeton. Born May 5, 1945, in Kankakee to Warren and Lois (Benchelt) Christian, he married Janice A. Wyatt Dec. 31, 1969, in Wyanet. She survives. He was a graduate of Western High School in Buda. He was an equipment installer for Verizon for 38 years. He was a member of Wyanet VFW Post 6634. He served in the U.S. Navy as a machinist mate petty officer third class during the Vietnam War on the USS Kawishiwi. Also surviving are one daughter, Julie Anderson of Easton, Md.; two sons, Eric Christian of Bloomington and Gary Christian of Wyanet; two sisters, Ruth Webb of Albuquerque, N.M., and Grace (Bill) Belcher of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three brothers, Phillip Christian of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Donald Christian of Canton and Howard (Bonnie) Christian of Eureka; and three grandchildren, Justin and Kelsey Anderson of Easton, Md., and Sean Christian of Bloomington. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Princeton, with the Rev. David Berry officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Wyanet, with military rites conducted by Wyanet VFW Post 6634. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Wyanet Rescue Unit or Wyanet VFW Post 6634.
