James R. Hochstatter, 60, of Wyanet died at 5:10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010, at his home. Born July 26, 1950, in Princeton to Ronald T. and Maxine (Kirkpatrick) Hochstatter, he married Christine Atwell Aug. 16, 1968, in Annawan. She survives in Mineral. He graduated from Manlius High School in 1968. He graduated from Western Illinois University, Macomb, with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Health; from the University of Illinois, Springfield, with a Masters in Art and Education Administration; and from Western Illinois University, Macomb, with an Education Specialist in Education Administration. He was a teacher and coach at Abingdon High School, dean of students in Rochester, principal and superintendent at Tampico, superintendent at DePue and superintendent at Galva. He retired in 2008. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manlius, Green River Saddle Club, Manlius Sportsman Club, Wirth''s Hunting Club, American Quarter Horse Association and Illinois Elementary School Association. Also surviving are his fiancé, Billi DeBrock of Wyanet, and her daughters, Ryan DeBrock of Manlius and Nikki (Peter) Johnson of New Bedford; two daughters, Teresa (Chuck) Buysse of Wyanet and TeNeille (Chad) Gripp of Sheffield; one son, Travis (Heather) Hochstatter of Whitesboro, Texas; eight grandchildren, Shannon Hochstatter, Abigail Buysse, Calen Buysse, Chase Gripp, Stephanie Gripp, Quincy Hochstatter, Logan Johnson and Leigha Johnson; one brother, Mark (Angie) Hochstatter of Bellevue, Iowa; three sisters, Christine (Gary) LaCroix of Tampa, Fla., Kay (Max) Wallace of Princeton and Jeannine (Steve) Russell of Bushnell; aunts and uncle; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manlius, with the Revs. Brenda Lovick and Gary LaCroix officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded after the services. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Manlius Rescue Squad and Manlius Sportsman Club. The Grant-Johnson Funeral Home in Manlius is in charge of arrangements.

  6. I just cant believe what I am reading. He was one of my favorite teachers here in Abingdon and I will always hold those memories deep in my heart. With deepest sympathies to his family. RIP Mr Hochstatter!!!!

  7. My condolences to the family. Jim hired me for my first teaching position while the superintendent in DePue. He was a great man who had a wonderful sense of humor. He will be missed by many.

  8. What a loss of a great person! He lived life to the fullest and enjoyed his time here. He was a good friend, great father and grandfather. He lived for his family and always had their best interest at heart.
    A good man that will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
