Bradford – James L Colgan, 77, of Bradford, passed away on January 23, 2022 surrounded by his family. He was born July 24, 1944 to Francis and Lucille Colgan. He married Mary Carol Hall on November 30, 1968 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Peoria IL. She preceded him in death on January 23,, 2013.

He is survived by his children: Blake Colgan, Jamie (John) Murphy, Lindsey Colgan and Brock Colgan all of Bradford; Three brothers Bill (Carol) Colgan of Princeville, Robert (Virginia) Colgan of Bradford, Joe (Sandi) Colgan of Bradford and three sisters Helen (Ken) Slane of Peoria, Mary Ann (Butch) Knobloch of Tiskilwa, and Peggy (Robert) Bauer of Marcy, New York.  He is also survived by six grandchildren: Natalie and Ryan Murphy, Hayden Holton, Julius Tyus and Taylor and Nolan Colgan.

Jim served in the Army Reserves then worked as a residential carpenter in Peoria. Following this he started his own general contractor company, Jim Colgan Builder, which he continued to work up until this past year. He built numerous custom homes over the years and he truly loved his work. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and his lifelong passion of raising cattle.

The family would like to thank the Nurses and CNAs at OSF St. Luke’s in Kewanee for the outstanding care they gave Jim.

The family is having a private service with Father Patrick Henahan at St John’s Catholic Church in Bradford.

  1. My heart is broken for your family. I knew your mom as was in high school with her. And over the years I feel I know your family somewhat through Mary Ann. Please know you are in my prayers that God carries you through this very difficult time. (I am Butch’s sister.)

  2. For the past 20 years, we have lived in one of the custom homes that Jim built near Kewanee! Thoughts and prayers are with you.

  3. So sorry to hear about Jim’s passing. We always thought a lot of him. He and Bob built our house in Bradford. We will miss him. His family is in our thoughts and prayers.
