J. Michael "Mike" O'Malley, 79, of Ohio, Illinois passed away Thursday, March 24, 2022 at Heritage Manor in Mendota, Illinois after a lengthy struggle with Parkinson's disease.
He was born August 9, 1942 at St. Anne's Hospital, Chicago, Illinois the son of Dr. Joseph W. and Violet (Emblad) O'Malley.
Mike married Catherine Curran on February 10, 1968 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dixon. She preceded him in death July of 1971. He married Kate Niord on September 2, 1972 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ohio. She preceded him in death December 5, 2021.
He is survived by four children: Janel (Mike) Blaine of Appleton, WI, Margie (John) Retzler of Algonquin, IL, Lisa (Sean) Schnepper of Oconomowoc, WI, and Steven (Crystal) O'Malley of Woodbury, MN; 9 grandchildren: Jason and Aaron Blaine, Meghan and Lucas Retzler, Ty, Anna, and Thomas Schnepper, and Willa and Vianne O'Malley; and two brothers: Dr. John "Jack" (Ann) O'Malley of Ohio, Illinois and Thomas (Susie) O'Malley of Clearwater, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents and both wives.
Mike graduated from Ohio High School with the Class of 1960. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from St. Ambrose University.
He began his career in human resources in 1965 at Dixon State School. After that he worked for 15 years at LTV Steel, Hennepin, Illinois. He ended his career with Textron Fastening Systems in Rockford, Illinois in the year 2000.
Mike was member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ohio, the Mendota Golf Club and the Green River Golf Club, Walnut, Illinois. He was also a volunteer on the Ohio Fire Department. Mike especially enjoyed his family vacations on Long Lake in Minnesota for over 50 years.
He was a member of the United States Army Reserves.
A visitation will be held from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ohio, Illinois with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 a.m. at the Church. Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery, Dixon, Illinois. Memorials may be directed to the Ohio Fire Department or the Parkinson's Foundation. Mike was a fun guy to be around. He was always one to bring a smile to your face and make you laugh. May the memories be many.
Sorry to hear about Mike. I worked with him at Camcar/Textron and he was so much fun to work with. He had a great sense of humor.
Mike was a special friend of my late husband Jack Gugerty. I always enjoyed the times we were together. Sorry for your loss.
