Irvin W. "Gus" Gustafson, 91, of Princeton died at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019, at Liberty Village in Princeton.

He was born July 31, 1928, in Malden, the son of Frank and Esther (Johnson) Gustafson. He married Monica Foster in 1992. She preceded him in death.

Gus graduated from Malden High School. He served in Korea with the 2nd Infantry Division and participated in the Battle of Bloody Ridge and Heartbreak Ridge. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge.

He worked for the research department of Pioneer Hybrid International for 40 years.

Gus was a member of the Princeton Elks Lodge. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He especially enjoyed flying in to fishing outposts in northern Ontario.

Surviving are two stepsons, Eric (Candace) Foster of Princeton, and their children, Chase and Haiden Foster, and John (Linda) Smith of Princeton; six nieces and nephews, Jody Johnson, Janie Estes, Steve Strugala, Rob Strugala, Dan Strugala and Allen Gustafson; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and six siblings, Inez Gustafson, Mildred Saunders, Vivian Strugala, Lois Schertz, Gilbert Gustafson and Everett Gustafson.

Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and there will be no services or visitation.

Memorials may be directed to the donor's choice.
