Howell W. "Mac" McVay, 75, of LaSalle, passed away at 11:25 a.m. Friday, August 19, 2016 at his home in LaSalle. Born January 2, 1941, in New Madrid County, MO. to Benjamin H. & Helen (Newcomb) McVay. He married Sammye L. Hodgson November 6, 1970 in Mendota, they later divorced. Surviving are two daughters, Cari (David) Oaks of Wyanet, IL and Tamera McVay of LaSalle, IL.; 3 grandchildren, Katelin (Nate Moon) Ganther of Spring Valley, IL, Jacob Ganther of Peru, IL and Erika Bogatitus of Oglesby, IL.; 2 great-granddaughters, Gianna Lillian Rae; Kennedy Rose both of Oglesby, IL.; great-grandson, Karson Moon of Spring Valley; brother Harvey (YeVonne) McVay of Benton, MO.; and close family friend Shari Wilder of LaSalle, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents. He graduated from Kelly High School, in Benton, MO. in 1959. He was a machinist at HICO in Mendota, IL. He was a member of United Steel Workers, Masonic Lodge, Peru, IL., Grace United Methodist Church, LaSalle, IL., he delivered Meals on Wheels for Red Cross, Peru, IL., worked at PADS shelter and volunteered for the Red Cross Disaster Relief Team. He served as an Airmen 1st Class in the U.S. Air Force, during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Services will be at 7:00 p.m. Monday, August 22 at Hurst Funeral Home in LaSalle with Pastor Todd Brett of the Grace United Methodist Church of LaSalle. Masonic rites will be conducted by Masonic Lodge St. Johns #13, Peru, IL. Inurnment will be in Oak Dale Cemetery, Commerce, MO. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday, August 22 at Hurst Funeral Home in LaSalle. Memorials may be directed to the Local PADS Shelter. Grant-Johnson Funeral Home in Princeton, is in charge of the services.
