Hollis E. "Hod" Wright, 85, of Buda died at 7:35 a.m. Monday, July 25, 2011, at Liberty Village of Princeton. Born Oct. 21, 1925, in Trilla, Ill., to Walter and Erna (Montz) Wright, he married Delores Virginia Mechling Sept. 27, 1946, in Toledo. She died Oct. 9, 2001. He was a fieldman for Kraft, and also worked in the maintenance and water departments for the village of Buda. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sheffield, Buda Lions Club, Buda American Legion Post 261 and Hopeland Cemetery Board. Surviving are two sons, Gary (Jeannine) Wright of Kewanee and Ronald (Linda) Wright of Sheffield; seven grandchildren, Scott (Amy) Wright, Brian Wright, Angela (Chad) Fisher and Allison (Brandon) Behrens, all of Sheffield, Michelle (Rob) Phillips of Kewanee, Milinda (Shane) Salisbury of Geneseo and Natalie Stone of Princeton; 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Patricia (Don) Beals and Shirley Wright, both of Neoga, Ill. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Carol SuAnn Stone; and four brothers and one sister. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Sheffield with Pastor Mike Abel officiating. Burial will be in Hopeland Cemetery, Buda. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Homes, Princeton, with military rites conducted by Buda American Legion Post 261. Memorials may be directed to the Buda Rescue Squad, United Methodist Church in Sheffield or American Cancer Society.

  1. I was so sorry to hear about Uncle Hod. He shall be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Sending lots of love your way.

  2. We always enjoyed seeing Uncle Hod. Larry said he will never forget when he was able to give him his own Dad’s shotgun (Larry’s Grandpa Wright’s and Hod’s actual Dad’s gun!).
    Larry had rescued it from Uncle Paul Wright’s.
    It was in pretty rough shape, but Uncle Hod was delighted to have it.
    We think he even took it out and shot it!
