Harriet B Hooker

Harriet B. Hooker, 92, of Bradford died Monday, Aug. 30, 2010, in Bradford. She was a direct descendant of Bradford Foster, early settler of the village of Bradford. She was born on a farm east of Bradford on Nov. 15, 1917, to Harry Hugh and Bessie B. Hay Fisher. She attended Bradford schools and married Jewell Raymond Hooker on Aug. 24, 1941. He preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her parents; her stepfather; two brothers; and her infant grandson, Matthew Hooker. Surviving are her son, Timothy J. (Christine) Hooker of Woodstock, Ill.; three grandchildren, Tadd (Christine) of Harmony, Pa., and Melissa and Joshua (Niki), both of Chicago; and three great-grandchildren. She served her church in many capacities, including choir director, soloist and organist for over 40 years. She was a certified lay speaker for surrounding communities. As evangelism chair of her church, she promoted and organized the Resource Center clothing and food pantry for Bradford. For over 30 years, she operated a beauty salon in Bradford. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, bird watching, painting, flower arranging and music. A proud member of Clan Hay, she very much enjoyed genealogy and all things Scottish. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, at Grant Johnson Funeral Home in Bradford. A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at Leet Memorial Methodist Church in Bradford, with the Rev. Amy Holman and the Rev. Danny Lybarger officiating. Visitation will also be one hour before services, with burial in Bradford Cemetery.
