Harold W. Ratliff, 82, of Quincy, formerly of Manlius, died at 11 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy. Born May 8, 1927, Greensburg, Ky., to George W. and Alice (Elmore) Ratliff, he married Donna J. Hartz June 21, 1945, in Manlius Township. She survives. He attended schools in Wyanet and Tiskilwa. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a life-time farmer. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manlius, a former Manlius School Board member, and a former member of Bureau County Farm Bureau, Gold Township 1 Drainage District and Wyanet VFW Post 6634. Also surviving are one daughter, Cynthia J. (Tom) Foes of Sheffield; one brother, Bob (Carol) Ratliff of Princeton; four sisters, Lula (Ed) Day of Moline, Shirley Bornsheuer of Princeton, Waunita Lang of Galva and Elmarene Thompson of Dixon; six grandchildren, Heather (Chris) Grubb of Singapore, Singapore, Matthew (Heather) Foes of Loves Park, Todd (Ann) Ratliff, Tim Ratliff and Trisha (Jason) Johnson, all of Manlius, and Tara (Keith) Arteberry of Walnut; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, James W. Ratliff; and two brothers, George W. and Ronald Ratliff. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manlius, with the Rev. Marvin Claassen officiating. Burial will be in the Manlius Cemetery, Manlius, with military rites conducted by Wyanet VFW Post 6634. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Memorials may be directed to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church or the Quincy Veterans Home Social Services. Pallbearers will be Matthew Foes, Todd Ratliff, Tim Ratliff, Bill Swan, Dave Thompson and Bruce Frank.
