Grace Eleanor Hjertstedt, 93, of Sheffield died at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, at her home.

She was born Nov. 3, 1925, in Princeton to Daniel and Frances (Calkins) Hamrick. She married Howard K. Hjertstedt July 12, 1952, in the Wyanet Congregational Church in Wyanet. He survives in Sheffield.

She graduated from Wyanet High School in 1943 and went on to Western Illinois State Teacher's College. She received her bachelor's degree in home economics in 1947. She taught at Ohio High School.

Grace and Howard farmed in rural Sheffield. Grace returned to teaching part-time as a Title I teacher at Western Community Unit School in Buda from 1966 to 1982, and then continued to substitute teach at schools until 2006. She was an election judge for many years.

Grace was a life-long member of the Community Bible Church in Wyanet. She taught Sunday school there most of her adult life.

Also surviving are three daughters, Martha Bowyer of Princeton, Ruth (Jim) Draper of Sheffield and Jane (Roy) Yarrington of Princeton; one son, Bill (Angelika Thompson) Hjertstedt of Princeton; six grandchildren, Tiffany Bowyer of Pleasant Prairie, Wis., Keli (Jensen) Pinter of Princeton, Megan (Dustin) Brown of Princeton, Nicole Yarrington of Princeton, Kesielyn Hjertstedt of Princeton and Koel Hjertstedt of Princeton; four stepgrandchildren, Troy (Gina) Romagnoli of Princeton, Todd (Michelle) Romagnoli of Palm City, Fla., Tami (Tom) Johns of Waukesha, Wis., and Tiah (Danny) Wingate of Creston, Ohio; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Donna Jackson of Sherrard; many nieces; and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Miriam Nelson.

Services will be at noon Tuesday, Sept. 3, at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home in Princeton with Pastor Fred Laughlin officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Wyanet. Visitation will be prior to the services, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the funeral home.
