Gordon Wesley Shipp, 74, of Wyanet died at 5:45 a.m. Saturday, July 17, 2010, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Born Aug. 24, 1935, in Princeton to Arthur and Selma (Nordstrom) Shipp, he married Minnie Mae Erickson June 29, 1957, in the First Baptist Church of Manlius. She survives. He was a carpenter and worked for Local 195 Carpenters. He retired in 1995. He served in the U.S. Army as a SP4 in the Infantry. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Manlius and Illinois Valley White Tails Unlimited. Also surviving are three sons, Wesley (Sandy) Shipp and Randy (Kim) Shipp, both of Wyanet, and Jeff (Ann) Shipp of Princeton; one brother, Arthur "Sonny" Shipp of Greenville, Ohio; two sisters, JoAnne Johnson of Sheffield and Dorothy Dutcher of Battle Creek, Mich.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three half brothers, Roger Pierson, Ray Pierson and Richard Pierson; two sisters, Majorie Cornman and Ardith Shipp. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Princeton, with Pastor Aaron Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Princeton, with military rites conducted by Wyanet VFW Post 6634 and Princeton American Legion Post 125. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church of Manlius, Princeton Wesleyan Church or Illinois Valley White Tails Unlimited. Pallbearers: Andrew Shipp, Jeffrey Shipp, Richard Schail, Mike Vaughn, Ronny Johnson and John Erickson
